With the term power relationships I refer to very complex contexts that lead to the fact that certain groups of people have advantages compared to other groups of people. SEXISM for example is the power relationship that privileges the group of „men“ (not only)  over the group of „women“. The discrimination of one group and the related privilege of the other takes place at various levels. Some of those levels are laws, stereotypes (which for example are constantly re-enacted in the media), our actions, ideas and language. Further power relationships apart from racism and sexism are amongst others ABLEISM (the production of being not disabled as a norm, which results in the disablisation of people who don’t correspond to the norm ) and CLASSISM (the production of a certain social status, like the middle-class, as the norm, which results in the discrimination of people who don’t correspond to that norm).
